Women Veterans & Mental Health

Peer support programs and trauma-informed holistic services can improve resilience and wellbeing for women veterans


Approximately 200,000 women transition from active duty to veteran status each year in the U.S.


Women veterans are nearly twice as likely as civilian women to develop PTSD (30% vs 16%)


Almost 20% of women veterans of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan have been diagnosed with PTSD


Women veterans are at greater risk for PTSD and depression than their male veteran counterparts

Mental health issues like PTSD, anxiety, and depression manifest differently in women veterans compared to civilian women


Suicide rates among women veterans are twice that of civilian adult women
